2.26.12Lenten Chaplet Project

Three hundred people in our parish will choose to make this Chaplet journey together. After the 7:00 AM, 12:10 PM and 6:30 PM Masses on Ash Wednesday, the chaplet bases were handed out.

After each Lenten weekend Mass, additional beads will be handed out at the side and rear entrances of the worship sites. The beads will also be available in the parish office.

At home, string on and knot the appropriate bead. It is suggested that each day you read the reflection and say the suggested prayer associated with the "bead of the week/day."

Ash Wednesday: Cross Base & Purple Bead

Ash Wednesday begins our Lenten journey of penitence. The purple of our first bead reminds us that 40 days of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving lie before us, but notice the bead is also streaked with green. The word Lent means "springtime." These 40 days of Lent will also provide us with opportunities to be renewed and grow in our faith.

CHAPLET DAILY REFLECTION

Ash Wednesday: Why have I chosen to have my forehead signed with ashes?

Thursday: How do I most want to grow this Lent?

Friday: Where must I make reconciliation in my life?

Saturday: What in my spiritual life has become stagnant and cries out for renewal?

Sunday: This is the Lord's Day. Rest on your Lenten Journey.

CHAPLET PRAYER

Be merciful O, Lord, for I have sinned.

First Week of Lent: Brown Bead

Our sandy brown bead reminds us that we are called to the desert of Lent to pray and fast with Jesus. The desert is a beautiful yet dangerous place. We must keep close to Our Lord.

CHAPLET DAILY REFLECTION

Sunday: This is the Lord's Day. Rest on your Lenten Journey.

Monday: What in my faith life causes me awe?

Tuesday: For good or bad, to what or whom do I "listen with great attention?"

Wednesday: Do I have a "safe place" to which I can retreat? What  are its characteristics? Does it feel safe because of the place or the presence of another?

Thursday: Where do I need to let go of some things (fear, control, anger, etc.) in order to more fully experience God's presence in my life?

Friday: How will my faith be healthier by Easter?

Saturday: Where do I "belong?" What are the groups, the relationships, the connections that truly make me feel "this is where I belong?"

CHAPLET PRAYER

Your ways O Lord are truth and love.

Pillar Five: Fasting

Watch Matthew Kelly explain this pillar...

Opportunities to Participate:

Fasting is an ageless penitential practice in the Church, which our culture has long since discarded.  We need to fast again.  First from food, then from many other things we don't really need.

It is recommended that adults fast from food at least on the Wednesdays and Fridays of Lent.  Some choose to fast every day during Lent, except for Sundays.  Fasting from food could be as light as eating ony one full meal on your chosen fast days or as strict as eating only bread and water on your fast days.  Fasting from food teaches us to discipline our physical cravings.  It also places us in closer proxmity with those who are ppor and unable to eat every day.
