I. Meeting began with prayer

II. Agenda was accepted

III. Minutes from last meeting were approved

IV. Business at Hand:

A. Report from Parish Council:

  1. Dennis brought a copy of the Committee Booklet from last year for us to review. It will need to be tweaked a little before the selection weekends coming up May 14/15 and May 21/22. We were asked by Fr. Jim to personally invite two people we know who might be interested in serving on our committee. We have three slots to fill. May 2nd is the deadline for any changes to be made to the booklet. Committee members will be chosen by Fr. Jim on Pentecost Sunday, June 12, at the 9am Mass.

B. Hospitality Weekend:

  1. 7:30 Mass on April 10th cancelled due to Lent.
  2. 10:45 Mass on May 29th will be hosted by Gabe and his family.

C. “Pizza, Popcorn and the Pope” was very successful, and thanks were given to all members who helped in any way. There were about 55 adults and 6 children attending despite the snowy weather that night. Babysitting and the “kiddie event” went well also and will be considered for future happenings. The movie was well-received, and the one hour length was perfect. There was enough pizza and popcorn, and everything wrapped up in about two hours total. Wonderful evening!

D. Parish Retreat:

  1. Fr Jim reports that he is ready and waiting on the Holy Spirit to fulfill our “Journey to Holiness” beginning Sunday evening, March 20 at 6:30 at the St. Mary’s site. Arrangements are being made to open the church early, and Marshall Potter has agreed to be available for the music.
  2. There will be no treats due to Lent, but juice and water will be available at the back of church, and on the last night, pretzels will be served as well.
  3. Participants may bring articles for Fr. Jim to bless during the retreat: water, oil, salt, rosaries, crucifixes, etc.
  4. The Eucharist Contest for families or individuals has been mentioned in the last two bulletins, and the Religious Ed students will be given a handout on Wednesday night to encourage participation. All projects must be turned in to the parish office by March 20th.

E. Fr. Jim’s Saturday Lenten series on “The Spirituality of Fasting” has begun, and there were 30+ people attending the first Saturday. Coffee and juice will be available for participants. The talks will be on Facebook.com for those who are unable to make it on Saturday mornings.

F. Divine Mercy Sunday plans are underway with Sally, Juliann and Mary reporting. Brochures have been ordered. Juliann is writing informational blurbs for the bulletin each week, and information on the novena will be distributed the week before Palm Sunday.

V. Other

A. Kudos were given to Fr. Jim and the office staff for the new format of the worship aids that now include printing all the readings. There have been many positive comments about them.

B. Fr. Jim mentioned the “other” contest in progress, the pictures of the prayer corners. He has already received one picture.

C. Kirt noted that last fall’s speaker at MBS, Susan Conroy, has a seven-week series, “Speaking of the Saints”, which can be seen on EWTN in a variety of time slots.

D. Gabe raised the question of possibly offering something on the Church’s stand on various social issues at some point after Easter. Fr. Jim offered that such a topic might fall under the Human Concerns Committee’s domain, and also that consideration would have to be given to the current political climate as to advisability of addressing some of these issues at this time.

The meeting closed with prayer at 8:35 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Teri Doughty, co-sec. (with Mary Pogue)

  1. Meeting opened with prayer.
  2. Agenda and minutes were accepted as read.
  3. Business at hand
  1. Speaker Series/Parish Retreat:Eucharistic Miracles was a suggested topic for a possible speaker series topic for February, but after prolonged discussion, it was decided to make this a part of the parish retreat March 20-23. Fr. Jim's subject will be "Family and the Eucharist, the Domestic Church" (or something on that order) with Sunday night beginning with solemn evening prayers and a short talk on the Eucharist. One night might include talks given by members of this committee on their favorite Eucharistic miracles; another night might include some talks by some of the City-wide Adoration Chapel adorers about what positive effects the chapel has had on them and/or the community. Gabe suggested a having a movie for kids on one of the nights that could be held in the lower church at the St. Mary's site, while the adults meet upstairs for the retreat. Rich suggested we have a contest open to families in which they would research a particular Eucharistic miracle and do a paper or poster to reflect it. We could set up all the posters in the back of the church for all to see during the retreat nights. Kathie brought up a possible concert by a well-known artist who does music relating to the Eucharist, but it was tabled briefly.
  2. Speaker Series for February: Gabe came up with the idea of having a movie night for adults using an Ignatius Press program of using a "free" movie from them on John Paul II, with the option for viewers to purchase books that night at a discount to our committee. A discussion followed, and it was decided to look into this further, but we set the date for the movie on Saturday, February 26th, following the 4 pm Mass, with popcorn and pizza to be served before the movie. We can have a sign-up the weekend before to determine the number of pizzas we will require.
  3. Speaker Series, general: Kathie Reed will further investigate the concert discussed earlier for possibly Corpus Christi weekend. Fr. Jim is hoping to have a pilgrimage to the Robinsonville Shrine this year, and Mary mentioned a local contact whose grandparents lived during the time of the miracles there. Sally mentioned having a Respect Life speaker in October.
  4.  Report from Parish Council by Dennis:
  1. The chairpersons will be giving presentations about their committees on Thursday, February 17, and Kirt and Rich will represent us there.
  2. Sister Diane's replacement was discussed, and a volunteer is wanted for the position. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  3. Booklets about all the committees with pictures, etc. are suggested for election weekend on June 12. A personal invitation to possible candidates is the best way to recruit new people, Fr. Jim said. Outgoing people on committees may choose to run again.
  4. Volunteer Appreciation Night with desserts will be held at the St. Peter site, possibly in May sometime.
  5. The need for a Respect Life committee at this parish was discussed, and would be a sub-committee of Human Concerns.

E.  Hospitality Weekends: Dates and staffing were confirmed.

D.  Schedule for Adoration: Dates and adorers were scheduled.

IV.  Meeting closed with prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

Teri Doughty, co-secretary (with Mary Pogue)

Absent excused: Gabriel Loiacono, Sally Coleman

I. The meeting opened with prayer.
II. Motion made and seconded to accept agenda.
III. Motion made and seconded to accept October minutes.
IV. Business at Hand:

A.Letter to Committee Chairpersons from Fr. Jim:

1.Discussed letter regarding signs, notices, announcements and events being placed in the churches' vestibules, taped to the Scrip table, etc. It is recommended that announcements be submitted to Laurie Pollack and Kristin Bird for placement in the bulletin or on the website. For major events, a full-page notice or flyer may be used, but only with approval and only on a selective basis.

2.Discussed announcements of parish deaths and births.

3.All committee meetings and events are now to be written on the large calendar in the Parish Center meeting room by each committee.

4.Go to Fr Jim or Kristin for FaceBook, Kristin for website, Laurie for bulletin.

B.Parish Visitation by Fr. Jim:

1.Fr. reported that he feels this has been a failure for the parish. He questioned whether or not it should be continued.

2.It was decided to gather the facts once again and email the teams about their further interest, and if no response, to call them personally about it.

C.Catholic and Lovin' It by Dennis:

1.CALI has been interesting and informative and going very well so far with excellent speakers involved and good attendance.

2.Peg Larson suggested that CALI be spelled out in full in the bulletin for newcomers and visitors who do not understand the initials.

3.Name tags for participants were discussed again.

D."Kids' Time" during Fr. Jim's Advent talks on Saturday mornings:

1.Gabe Loiacono will lead the children's sessions.

2.Virtus-trained adults are needed to assist.

E.Speaker Series Update by Rich Trofka:

1.Fr. John Doerffler spoke about "End of Life Issues" for a total time of 2 hours, had good attendance of 55 people. He required a large amount of handouts to be copied. There was a conflict with the Parish Council meeting on the same night, so it was decided to not schedule speakers on Thursday evenings in the future. This particular one was set up by the diocese.

2.The next speaker is Fr. Mike Lightner who will discuss his conversion experience on Friday, December 10th at the St. Peter's site. Because of the expected interest for high school and college students, this will be announced at the Sunday evening Mass at Lourdes, and by Sam Wood at the Newman Center, and by Kristin Bird and Mary Wichman at the Religious Ed classes.

3.Kevin Revolinski will be the January speaker, probably to be held at St. Josaphat's.

4.Discussed use of Relevant Radio for advertising speakers.

5.Kirt talked with Julianne Donlon who is the Adult Faith Formation Director of the diocese.

F.Parish Council Report, Dennis:

1.Matt Troiber from the Time and Talent (T & T) sub-committee of the Stewardship Committee announced the Women's Day of Recollection will be on May 21 with Amber Lee as the speaker. She was recommended by Julianne Donlon of the diocese.

a.Rich Trofka questioned why T & T set up this retreat as it would more appropriately be handled by our committee under adult faith formation. We were told "It's always been done this way."

2.Children's envelopes are in the process of being printed.

3.Salvation Army bell ringers are already signed up and working at Walgreen's for the pre- Christmas season.

a.Rich asked why we are promoting another religion's fund-raising efforts, and this was briefly discussed.

4.The Cash Raffle Calendar has been suspended for this year.

5.No special events are to be scheduled on Parish Council meeting nights per Fr. Jim.

V. Other business:

A.The Adoration Schedule was discussed and concerns mentioned.

B.Rose Dorsey has opted off this committee due to non-attendance and inability to attend. We are not actively seeking a replacement at this time.

C.August 27th will be our parish committees' Day of Recollection at the Jesuit Retreat House.

D.Joan Reiter will speak to the Women's Group about providing treats for the speaker series coming up in December.

VI. The meeting closed with prayer at 9:00 pm

Respectfully submitted

Teri Doughty, secretary
