BUSINESS MEETING

Financial Report & Discussion

Our treasury account is $1,401.79. Two suggestions were made for spending some of the funds; buying table protectors to be used by all our parish groups and room renters choosing to use tools/art supplies/etc in Aquinas Hall, and repair work to the grotto on the St. Mary campus. Reni Lynch will get estimates on the former & Carol Fenrich, the latter.

October 6, 2010 Meeting

After a welcome message from facilitator Anna LeRoy, 35 members and guests were avid listeners as Dr. Karen Gremminger Sorted Through the Myths & Truths of Women's Cancer Care. As October is designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she began her presentation with some statistics for the disease, the number one cancer diagnosis for women. Mercy Medical Center, where Dr. Gremminger maintains her practice, sees more than 100 new cases of breast cancer each year. She reminded us that no two women diagnosed with the disease will be treated the same and that there are many different approaches to a woman's therapy regimen including surgical options, radiation, and chemotherapy. There are resources for women who think they cannot afford a mammogram, and we were encouraged to continue monthly self exams as a 'clear' mammogram is only as good as the day it was taken. Cervical, ovarian, and colon cancer statistics were also shared as well as a reminder to respect your own family's cancer history. All women are encouraged to maintain their good health by having an annual pelvic exam by their physician, even if they are past child-bearing age as this is the number one preventive measure against cancer.

As an organization of parish women, we commit ourselves to growing in faith and affirming our gifts by: Building Relationships and widening our circle of friendships among members of our parish & engaging in ministry & actions to Support the Mission of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish & the work of its core committees.

An exciting year awaits all who choose to join with other parish women to socialize, celebrate our gifts and put the parish mission in motion! Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at *6:30 P.M. in Aquinas Hall on the St. Peter site. Plan to attend the following as each scheduled program highlights a talented woman from our parish. Dessert and refreshments will be served each meeting!

September 1

We unveil, dedicate & celebrate our newly renovated Aquinas Hall. Father Jim will bless the room & the crosses donated by our group. Featured this month is parishioner Maryellen Pung. An accomplished pianist, Maryellen will enhance our celebration with Music from the Romantic Era.  See the minutes from this meeting here.

We will then put our own "words to work" by writing holiday messages for Christmas Cards designed by Joan Ruetten, another talented parishioner. When completed, the cards will be sent to parish shut-ins.

December 1

Growing Up Catholic in Rwanda is the topic for an open discussion with Marie Umutesi. We learn how parishes function, sacraments are administered & faith is shared from our native Rwandan. This is a "Shoeless" meeting as we take part in the Soles for Souls Program in sending our shoes to the poor of her country. Watch for further details!!
