A quote from the U.S. Bishops

This passage (Lk 24:13-35) offers us a model for our ministry and shows the need we all have for ongoing formation in faith. For in it we see two adult disciples who, encountering the risen Lord, grow stronger in love, knowledge, commitment, and zeal. As then, today, "Those who are already disciples of Jesus Christ. ..[need] to be constantly nourished by the word of God so that they may grow in their Christian life. Such lifelong formation is always needed and must be a priority in the Church's catechetical ministry; moreover, it must "be considered the chief form of catechesis. All the other forms, which are indeed always necessary, are in some way oriented to it." (Our Hearts Were Burning Within us - par. 12-13)

There are a variety of volunteer roles that need to be filled in order to best serve our parish in catechesis and faith formation.  Please take some time to look through the below list of volunteer roles and discern how you might be called to serve in this ministry.

Unified Catholic Schools of Oshkosh

Our Catholic schools plan an important role in our faith development. Our children receive a quality education, as well as a solid basis for their Catholic faith development. Unified Catholic Schools offer a safe community for our children to develop as a person of faith. We support our schools through prayer, finances, and service.

If interested in quality Catholic education, please contact our school offices at 426-3626

Religious Education - Pre-2 through Kindergarten

Our children many learn slowly about God and family. Before 1st grade, our children are called out of our Sunday Mass and provided a bible study on their level. They gather with other children as they understand the love of God through family and friends.

Religious Education - Elementary & Middle School

It is our belief and understanding that the home is the most influential force in the life of a child. Religious education is the HELPMATE of the home. Our parish, in partnership with its families, serves to educate and share God's love with the youth in our community. The Elementary & Middle School Religious Education Program offers numerous opportunities to participate in community service projects, prayer, and worship. Your child will not just learn ABOUT their faith in a classroom setting, but learn to LIVE faith in their daily lives. We welcome you to be involved! Warning: Extremely rewarding!

Volunteers are needed in the following areas: Children's Liturgy of the Word, Catechists, Classrom Aide, Summer Vacation Bible School, Children's Choir Assistant, and Event Planners.

Youth Ministry / Religous Education - High School Program

Our High School Ministry moves beyond a traditional understanding of religious education. We implement an all-inclusive youth ministry program that addresses the many different needs of teenagers, including: pastoral care, evangelization, catechesis, prayer & worship, community life, justice and service, and advocacy. This vision includes increasing the offerings and expectations for high school students beyond the sacrament of Confirmation and traditional classes. Our youthministry programming includes large and small group gatherings, and non-gathered activities, and provides many different volunteer opportunities for adults of all backgrounds, ages, and faith levels.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas: Catechists, Classroom Aides, Volunteer Youth Ministers, Confirmation Preparation Assistants, Office Duty Assistants, and Event Planners.

Contact: Kristin Bird at 231-9782

Adult Education

The learning process continues as we mature. Adults are urged to continue to grow in the knowledge and practice of their faith and in their spiritual life. During the year, there will be programs, activities, and events that will shape our minds and hearts as spiritual people.

Contact: The Parish Office at 231-9782

Young Adult Ministry

Reaching out to single and married young adults challenges all of us to continue to grow in our faith. Catholics In Action is a young adult group that meets on a regular basis.

Contact: Fr. Jason at 233-8044 or follow us on Facebook!

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

This initiation process begins the Catholic journey of faith. It is a gathering of parishioners and those interested in becoming fully accepted into the Catholic Church to learn Catholic doctrine, study scripture, and share life and faith experiences. There are three ways to be involved:

Catechist - If you are confirmed and would enjoy explaining and teaching the Catholic Faith to other adults, become part of the RCIA team. Training is provided.

Sponsor - Choose to walk with a candidate by being their sponsor. There is a six month commitment for this process.

Prayer Partner - Choose to pray for a candidate by being their prayer partner. This is a six month commitment.

crocdockOur High Seas Expedition was oceans of fun!  We were so happy to see the over 40 children who joined us for a week of exploring the mighty love of God!  Looking for some great reminders of the swashbuckling adventure we had? Check out the slideshows below or visit our online photo album.

Thank you SO much to all the generous parishioners who donated supplies and money to help us provide a great experience of exploring God's Word for our kids!  A huge thank you as well to the many, many volunteers who helped us as set designers, station leaders, crew leaders, and support.

Our last shout-out goes to the many churches in our area who have helped share tips, ideas, resources and decorations with us.  The Spirit was moving through the sharing hearts and creative minds of these fellow Christians!  Did you miss the adventure with us?  That's okay!  Each of the following churches are putting on the exact same program - please consider signing up for one of these programs if you missed ours.

The high school teens and youth ministers are taking an hour of adoration in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel all summer long.  Our hour is from 9:00 - 10:00pm on Thursdays.  Please come to join us in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.  Never been to adoration?  That's okay!  We have a handy how-to guide created just for teens!

Special Summer Events

High Seas Expedition Vacation Bible School

Last summer we had a number of high school teens help out with our VBS program for elementary school kids. We had a blast with the Crocodile Dock theme and Cajun music.  This summer we're at it again with the High Seas Expedition, and we need your help! I guarantee there's something for everyone - even if you can't actually be at the VBS (June 14-18 9am-noon).  Check us out our event page on Facebook or sign up as a volunteer online!

Who Are The Youth Ministers? PDF Print E-mail

Our volunteer youth ministers are one of the most vital parts of our ministry.  First and foremost, they are role  models to the teens.  They know that how they live and act as adult Catholics makes a strong impression on teens, and they are committed to passing on the faith and modeling what it means to be in relationship with Christ.  With that guiding principle in mind, there are three foundational behaviors a youth minister.

Our hope is that going through this Sacrament and the preparation process will prepare our teens to be blessed by the sacramental life that is all around them.  Good decision making abilities, the wisdom to discern what God wants for you, the strength to witness to their faith - these are all gifts they will graced with through the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Our preparation process is designed to help the teens accept, appreciate and make the best use they can out of the many gifts that come from this Sacrament.
