Fr. Joel's Audio Homilies
Holy Wordcast
Sowing the seeds of the Word of God using modern technology, so that we might hear and be converted and bear fruit a hundredfold (Lk 8:8)

  • Ord17 - The Father Knows Best
Ordinary Time, 17th Sunday. We have a script in our mind that plays out our ideal life. It often happens that twists and turns and tragedies keep us from realizing the script. It seems like God does not want us to be happy, but the truth is, he has a much better life planned than we could imagine. We have to trust that God really does know better than we do. One of the hardest areas to trust is with our children. This is why the Church advocates Natural Family Planning, a method of regulating births that profoundly lives our Christian belief that the Father knows best. (25 Jul 2010)

  • Ord16 - Welcoming Jesus
Ordinary Time, 16th Sunday. There are three levels of welcoming Jesus into our lives: 1) Jesus isn't welcome at all. 2) We welcome Jesus into our home and into our life, but his presence is a burden. 3) We welcome Jesus into our heart and soul, and his presence is a joy. We see these levels in the story of Martha and Mary. We also see this progression in the life of Abraham. What level are you? How is Jesus welcome in your life? (18 July 2010)

  • Ord13 - Surrender Everything to God
Ordinary Time, 13th Sunday. What is the difference between Elisha in the first reading and the other three in the Gospel? Elisha wants to give God everything, it will just take him some time. The other three plan on holding something back from God. What amazing things God can do if we are willing to surrender everything! We see this in the life of Sr. Francis Xavier. We could see it in you life too. (27 Jun 2010)

  • Ord12 - Dying to be a Man
Ordinary Time, 12th Sunday. Learning to play an instrument involves suffering, but it's worth it. Sin mostly happens when we try to avoid suffering, with the result that we cause ourselves more suffering. Jesus offers a better solution - take up our cross and embrace our suffering. It causes us to grow as human beings and to grow in love. It is also what it means to be a father. Happy Fathers Day! (20 Jun 2010)

  • Ord11 - Greatest Love
Ordinary Time, 11th Sunday. We judge other people by what they do and by what they own. We judge ourselves the same way. But King David learns that God’s love for him is a more important standard. The woman in today’s Gospel responds by loving Jesus with all her heart. We have heard that God loves us, but do we really believe it? (13 Jun 2010)

  • Corpus Christi - God's Life in our Hands
Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus Christ (Corpus Christi). Ordination and Marriage involving placing one’s life in the hands of another. God invites us to place our life in His hands, but we hesitate. So, even though we are unworthy of it, God places His life in our hands. What are you going to do with it? (6 Jun 2010)

  • Trinity - A Community of Love
Trinity Sunday. We believe in One God. We believe that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Spirit is God. But we don't believe in 3 gods, we believe in One God. How is this possible? It is a mystery, which means that it doesn't fit inside our heads, but we can still try to understand it. God is One not because he is alone, but because he is a Community of Love. The Father pours himself out in love to the Son, and the Son pours himself back, making the Spirit. God pours himself out to us too, and invites us to do the same. (30 May 2010)
